Abstract

Conservation agriculture (CA) systems have been tried and tested in Malawi for the last decade. CA has been expanded to integrate trees (CAWT) alongside good agricultural practices. In recent years, it has received significant attention for its bio-physical and socio-economic benefits and is now considered as one of the “climate smart agriculture” technologies in Africa. Although CA shows promise to respond to the urgent needs of smallholder farmers in Africa, the slow adoption requires intensive debate on the constraints to its uptake.
